Richard Pratt

For over 40 years, Richard has been able to pursue his passion for the boat business and love of the water. He started his boating career working at Bradley Creek Marina as a dockhand and fork lift driver while attending UNCW. After completing college and seeing the world aboard a destroyer in the Navy, he returned to the marina to start his life in boat sales.

Serving as a Sales Manager for over 10 years, Richard represented brands such as Bertram, Pacemaker, Egg Harbor and Boston Whaler. In 1983, he teamed up with the local Grady White dealer Kay Crocker, and started a relationship that would last until Kay’s passing in 2008. During this time, Crocker’s Marine grew to three stores covering the North and South Carolina coast.

After the opportunity presented itself for Starling Marine to move into the Wilmington and Morehead City locations in 2009, Richard not wanting to retire yet, became part of the Starling Marine team in Wilmington and continues a great tradition of customer service.

Richard has been married to the love of his life, Peggy, for more than 40 years, and together raised a daughter Christy, son Trey, and are now enjoying their grandsons Mason and Connor.
